Arizona 77 Northern Arizona 13
It’s hard to imagine that Arizona was actually losing at the beginning of this game, but after Davonte’ Neal got a key interception it was all downhill for the Lumberjacks.
Rich Rod’s offense is scary when they can execute and the Cats did just that all night long. Several school records were broken in this game game including the most points ever scored, the most rushing yards (499) and a tie for 11 touchdowns in a game.
I felt bad for NAU, but Arizona took out the starters in the second half and did not pass it anymore. What else can you do? NAU simply could not stop any of the run game.
An interesting stat is that every QB that played got a rushing touchdown:
- Anu Solomon – 1
- Jerrard Randall – 2
- Brandon Dawkins – 1
- Zach Werlinger – 1
Jerrard Randall has proven once again that he is a dominant force and can score with his abilities. I don’t know why he doesn’t get more playing time. He can easily be a wide receiver or a running back. His speed and athleticism don’t deserve to be sitting on the bench. He could be a real asset especially when conference play begins next week.
Anu Solomon once again had a big offensive night by completing 25/35 passes for 285 yards and 4 touchdown passes. He keeps getting better each week.
Nick Wilson keeps getting better each week as well. He had 19 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
The defense started off pretty shaky, but soon got into a groove and shut out NAU in the second half. They had 3 key interceptions that helped with the big win.
Overall, the Cats keep getting better each week and the real test is going to be the next game against UCLA next week. If the offense keeps playing at this rate I think we can beat them. The real question is how the defense will do – can they step up?
